He was wandering down by the lakes, his cap on his head, tilted slightly to keep the sun out his eyes, his over the shoulder ,leather collecting back already starting to develop a fair bulge from the array of plants and other items he had so far gathered.
It wasn't just the plants he was after this time, already in his bag, three of his five bottles he had brought with him were filled with water snails ,water from the lake itself ,some fish eggs.
The sheer variety of plant life round these waters was worthy of the trek ,a fair number of samples already in the satchel already.
He had also managed to obtain some bark and leaves from a lakeside willow tree. The trick;his grandfather was fond of saying;was never to take too much from one site, let there be enough left growing for further collections on other days.He wasn't quite sure what he was going to do with the half set of deer antlers he had found on the path up to the lakes..something for the ''might be useful items box''.The pouch of deer droppings, well naturally they were destined for the making of Learning Tablets.
The sun was starting to set as he made his way back to wards his house cum shop back in town, his satchel now full, thanks to some bracket fungi, and two old horse shoes he had found .

Pan had been lazing about on a tree branch high up in one of the old oak trees lining the lakes shore. She'd watched the stranger walk about the lake, collecting up strange things and placing them into a satchel at his side.
The sunlight filtering through the leaves passed over the satchel as he walked below the tree. Is that a pair of deer antlers?.... Pan mused to herself with a puzzled look on her face.

Whilst it was true he himself was not yet quite sure what he was going to do with the deer antlers,he did have a space in his ''Might Be Useful '' store back at the workshop, that place to put anything not quite for the main store room of his raw materials.
For the present he was unaware of the presence of anyone else, and had enjoyed the solitude of the lake on the warm summer day ,busy though he had been.

Kaytie walked down the path, having been tired of finding nothing and exploring new avenues. What she saw was surprising. People! Well, one person. But it was worth something, and decided conversation was the best course. "Hi, I'm Kaytie," she said, taking it slow as not to inundate the new guy with conversation he may not have wanted but she so desperately craved.

He saw the woman before him and stopped his walk. She was the first person he had seen all day, well true he had left very early, but it had been a day well spent, judging by the bulging burlap bag,now dangling from his shoulder. ''Kaytie is it ? Well I am Cuddy Berfern,it is indeed a pleasure to meet you.I thought I had the place to myself today.'' He paused, pointing to his bag;''I have been on a stocking up supply mission today, what brings you this far from town ,if you don't mind me asking ?''.

"I'm just a wanderer. It's lonely here, like everyone quit coming out to play or something. I came here to study the place, but there isn't anything to study if nothing happens here." Kaytie was eyeing the bag on Cuddy's shoulder. "Stocking up supply mission, huh? What are you stocking up on, if you don't mind me asking?"

Pan tried to focus on something else besides the conversation going on below, but she couldn't help but overhear what they were saying, despite her best effort not to eavesdrop on the pair. She was beginning to feel like a stalker lying up in the trees.
Seraphina, who was flying high above, picked up on Pan's thoughts. 'Hey stalker.' She sent to her. Pan nearly fell from her branch with shock. Hilarious Sera. Hilarious. She sent back dryly. Seraphina laughed. Get down from the tree and make polite conversation.
Pan sighed, she felt the connection between her familiar and herself sever. She climbed nimbly down from the safety of the tree. Not having the most impressive social skills she jumped down from the last branch, landing rather ungracefully next to the two she gave them what she hoped was a winning grin. "So...what's up!"

So it had gone from being a quiet day on his own;happily filling his bag with all sorts of goodies, some useful, some very useful and some..well wait and see;to where he was now with not one,but two people vieing for attention, one who appeared to have fallen from the sky,or more likely was a tree lurker.
To Kaytie his response was;''Well I am collecting new stock for my Apothecary Shop in town,I have some workmen in at the moment giving it a renovation,so I took the opportunity to come out here to fill up my bag''
His reply to the new arrival;''As for what is up ,obviously not you anymore as you are now down here with us''. He was hoping that the renovation of his shop would not take too long,he may have to get in touch with the foreman of the work-team {hint hint Cassie]

Kaytie filled with excitment. "Can I see your shop? I've always wanted to see one for real," she said, bouncing quickly. "Please please, puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese?" She didn't care that could be embarrassing, but she was excited, after all.

A smile broke out on his face, even bigger than before:As I said it is being renovated, and there is not really a great deal to be seen just now. When it is ready, why certainly you can come along to the grand opening:

Pan had never met an apothercary before, where she came from only energetic medicine was used.
"What are you going to do with the deer antlers!" She asked him excitedly. "Are you going to make a potion that will turn someones hair green, Ooo Ooo! Maybe give someone blue spots like a leopard! If you give someone deer antlers will they grow antlers too? Will they turn into a deer! Why are you turning someone into a deer!? Did they make you mad? Is it one of the workmen? When my house was getting renovated my dad yelled at the workmen because they accidently burned half the house down, did your workmen do that? Are they ALL going to get turned into deers?" Pan asked hurriedly.

He gave a laugh at this new line of questioning: No I'm not going to turn anybody's hair green, not many leopards I know have blue spots.I'm certainly not turning anybody into deer either.
I have collected the antlers for the simple reason:Here he paused to draw breath: That one they were lying on the ground, just waiting to be picked up,and secondly;at some point they maybe be useful for something.Which means that when I'm back at the shop, they will be going up on one of the shelves in my ''Might Be Useful Store Room'',as opposed to the ''Raw Items Store and Finished Products Store Rooms''..Everything in its place, and a place for everything: He stood watching his two new companions, wondering who else was going to join them,or was it just going to be these three.

Pan was puzzled at his not knowing any blue spotted leopards, but she kept her befuddlement to herself for the time being.
"What else to you have in your might be useful room? Chairs with only 3 legs? Deflated beach balls? I had a deflated beach ball once, me and my cousin were playing at the beach when a porcupine jumped out of the waves and got stuck in our beach ball. Then it made a fart noise and deflated and the porcupine laughed and disappeared back into the sea and me and my cousin kept trying to play with it but the ball was never the same."

He shook his head;''No,I do not have anything like deflated beach balls or Sea Porcupines, but I do have things like a jar of porcupine spines, when I removed them from a dead one I found at the side of the road,a cart had hit it I think, true the meat was a bit chewy, but it cooked up real nice. Then I have couple of boxes of assorted animal bones, now my deer antlers too.And of course not forgetting my three jars of snail shells and one full of old bird egg shells.''.
It was starting to get on the dark side now,he turned to his two companions;''I don't suppose you could recommend a place to stay for a night or two until my place is ready ?''.

"There's an inn with lots of rooms. That's where I'm living," Kaytie said, knowing of nowhere else in town. "It seems there are houses here, but they might belong to people and you don't want a boot or weapon in an uncomfortable place."
