Skyler sat down at the table and started eyeing the menu. He was hungry in a way he never had been before. But, as he learned, fire was energy and if he started enough fires, he really had to eat. But that wasn't the full reason he took his time looking through the menu. He knew he had to tell Cora about his entire past, and hope she didn't hate him for what he had done. Once he decided what he was having, he set the menu down and looked across st her, hoping she didn't sense his nerves.

Cora threw him a half smile as she peered over her own menu. "Decided? I think I might just get desert. I'm in the mood for some sugary goodness. What are you getting?" She put her menu down and sipped on her water noticing Skyler fidgeting in his chair. "You okay?"

"I'm having pancakes, 'cause I like to flood them in syrup," Skyler said as he looked for a waitress. "Strawberry syrup."
He looked around, and noticed no one was around. "OK, I have to tell you everything, and I hope you don't hate me for it," he started. "I ran away from home 2 years ago, because my family found out that I could control fire when I was young. They caught me in the backyard one day touching a tree. Where I had touched it, though, the tree had burned. So they punished me in the only way they thought was appropriate for the situation - they paddled me. This was when I was 5," he sarted, stopping to let someone walk by without hearing any of his story, then resumed when they had passed. "Weird things like this kept happening. I lit a fire in the backyard one day because it was cold, but I didn't want to go back inside. Well, my parents didn't like that very much, because they watched me light it without a match, but even worse, they didn't like me lighting thhe fire to begin with, so they paddled me like before, and this time, they locked me in my room. They decided they would beat this magic out of me, so every day from the time I was 8 until I ran away, I would come home to get hit with whatever they had handy. Sometimes it was a paddle, sometimes a belt, sometimes a metal spoon that was still hot from cooking." Tears welled up in Skyler's eyes, as the memories flooded him. "So one day I ran. I had justhotten smacked across the mouth with the cooking spoon, and my mom was coming after me to use it again, so I took off out the door. I ran to a shop, which turned out to be a fabric shop where they sold enchanted fabric. I hid well, watching the seamstress work on things for herself, and, fter about a year, I made an outfit for myself. She never knew I was there, and I snuck out during the days to scavenge what I could for food and always made sure to be back at night. But I finally finished my outfit, which was made from a leather like material that changed colors with the phase of day, and I decided I needed to move on somewhere else before she caught me there. So I ran here." Skyler had to catch his breath now, and watched someone else pass by before continuing.
"So, while I was at the shop, someone made mention of Kane, Osric, Aslin, and Akando, and how he was looking to overrun the twins with power, and challenge Osric. So when I came here, I made a deal that I would be an agent of his inside both Aslin's and Akando's temples to find out what their doings were. But, I was also to try and convert them to Kane's followers, which was easy when word spread they were losing their following here, and had become weakened. For my reward for this part, Kane aged me 4 years, and with that, the knowledge and maturity with my powers and in myself. Part 2 of the plan was to destroy Eli, which I haven't been able to do, because he's a shifter, and possess 4 of the stones, making it harder to hurt him with magic that I can do. Part 3 of the plan was to send a message out that anyone who follows anyone but Kane will be destroyed. And that's why I set people on fire. I've killed people doing this. I've seriously hurt them for Kane." Skyler put his head down, the shame of what he had done in the past mixing with the pain of remembering his home life, but he knew there was more he had to tell.
"And now, I sit here, talking to only the second person I have allowed myself to even open up to slightly, with the first being gone, and I confess everything, realizing that for it, you could hate me for it. I came to Kane because it seemed like he was the powerful one, and I could learn from him and take everything out on everyone else. I don't know what to do anymore. I need someone to help me." With that statement, Skyler started crying harder than he ever had before, feeling a weight lifted off of him, while feeling the weight of his past misdeeds hurt him in a way he never knew they could. And he hoped when he stopped crying, he wasn't going to be alone again.

Cora looked sadly at the boy crying in front of her. She reached for his hand and squeezed it while running her other hand through his hair. "We all have our secrets, and we all have made mistakes. What you did is nothing to be ashamed of. Your parents didn't know what to do with you and you're powers, so you had to fend for yourself the best way you knew you could. What happened with Kane isn't something I'm really surprised at. He seems to have a way of using people for his own good without caring what consequences they have to face emotionally or otherwise. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think my parents knew much about what to do with me either. I don't even know them. All I know is my father was a powerful warlock and my mother was mortal, at least that's what I've been told, and I'm sure people can tell you stories about me and not knowing the first thing about my powers." She laughed to herself recalling old times.
"I went away for a while, and discovered a connection with the Water element. I just practiced until I could control for the most part what I can do, and I keep on learning. That's what life is about, learning. I'm not going to bail on you, that's not what family does." She winked at him and smiled. "I could use some family about now, what about you?"

Skyler looked up at her, still with tears in his eyes. "Yeah," was all he could manage to say at the moment.
