Skyler slumped at the table, looking at his half-eaten piece of pie. He was now beyond saving. His mentality was deteriorating to the point where life and death was the same. He hated both options, but now he was even worse off than ever before. Death would bring a release, but he was too young not to give life a chance. Sticking his fork in the pie, he was out of options and didn't know where else to turn.

Kane walked in and sat down across from Skyler. He figured that since this was all his fault, he would fix it. Kane didn't even wait for the boy the acknowledge him before he started speaking. "Skyler, I am going to tell you something I have never told anyone before. I was wrong. I shouldn't have honored your request to be made older so you could control your talent, and I shouldn't have used your for my own purposes." He sat there and let Skyler react. He had the rest of the cafe protected so that no one else would get hurt.

Skyler looked up at Kane. "Well, I'd rather it this way than nothing. It's not like you really did anything that hurt me. I'm the one who started feeling normal feelings for my age, and had no idea how to control them. And it's the same as my life when I ran away from home where I was unknown and uncared for. I didn't know how to handle it, so I did the only thing I knew, I lashed out."

"You misunderstand the situation." Kane said calmly. "When I agreed to make you older so that you could help me with my mission, I didn't take into consideration is that even with giving you the learning and maturity of a 16 year old, I could not give you the memories that go along with it. Thus, you have no coping mechanisms. You are dealing with things the way someone of your real chronological age would. This leaves me with no choice but to undo what I've done and learn from my mistake. I'm only sorry that it had to come with the expense of nearly ruining your life."

"You still haven't done anything as bad as others have done. I fell for Cora, she's gone. I fell for Tamuril, and she's not interested. I guess that I don't have the coping mechanisms, but who is to say that in 4 years I will? Who is to say that in 4 years I'll be any different than I am now? So why change me back? I've always lived my life learning as I go, not really having anyone to guide me and help me learn, so why would I want to stop now? I don't want to go back to the way it was. It'll make things worse with the memories of what has happened the past few months," Skyler said, now showing a little more life by poking at his pie.

"Well first of all, there is nothing to say that you will have the coping mechanisms you need in four years, but at least you will have the life experience and the chance to gain them. A lot can happen in four years, you probably won't be the same person you are today. But one thing I know is that if you keep on the path you are going, you won't have another four years. Either you are going to make the wrong person angry, or you are going to do it to yourself." Kane paused, hoping he wouldn't have to clarify what 'it' was. "And about the problems with your love life, all I can say is I'm sorry it sucks. You can't expect to find the right girl the first time. Hell, I've been around for tens of thousands of years and I am just now figuring out what love really is. Listen, I will let you remain the way you are now as long as you promise me one thing. Lay off the alcohol. You are going to have to learn some control and your drinking isn't helping any."

"I only did it once," Skyler protested, before fully realizing what Kane was saying. Even without the alcohol, he had been dangerous to others and himself. "And you didn't even know what love is until now? Wow, I guess I have it easy." Skyler took a bite of his pie, feeling a little bit better. "But I do have one question. Since it doesn't seem like the safest thing to let me learn life's lesson's my way, do you know anyone who could help me along the way, at least until I'm old enough to really take care of myself."
