Sam slid a glance at him, "I lie to my father all the time. As long as you can keep it covered when your in the same room as him, and when other people are in the same room as you, you should be safe" she snapped her fingers, and Royal came to her. She began petting his head, waiting for his answer

Hanvex looked away, deep in thought. When he brought his eyes back to her face, it was obvious that he had made a decision.
"I'll stay, if you want me to, but your sire will know that magic was used to disguise my appearance," he said, "How do I explain that?"

Sam glanced over at him. "Dont worry about my father, i can take care of him." she stood up. "I'll just let you change, i'll be right outside, waiting for you" she walked toward the door, and grasped the handle. She pulled the door open, and slipped through quickly, gracfully with Royal at her heels

For a few moments, Hanvex simply sat on the bed and stared at the closed door. Then he shook his head as if to wake himself up and then turned to rummage around in his pack.
A brief search was rewarded with his best clothing, those reserved for special occasions or whenever he wanted to make an impression on a lady. The clothing emerged from its cramped confines wadded up. When Hanvex shook them out, they showed not a wrinkle and fell in a slippery waterfall to the bed.
Of the finest silk and impeccably tailored, the shirt and trousers shone in the light. Of a silvery hue, the fabric changed color as it moved; a shimmery wonder of the clothmaker's art.
A smile touched Hanvex's handsome face as he studied his best duds. Originally made for him by his mother, they held such memories....
Then he sniffed and brought himself back to the room of the mansion and his purpose: to dress for dinner with a lord and his family. Quickly, Hanvex donned his outfit. The fabric clung where it would show him at his best and fell straight and loose elsewhere. Hanvex reached inside his packsack and drew out a pair of slippers made of the same material. He shoved his feet into them and then yanked a brush from the pack. Several slim golden necklaces dangled from its bristles and he shook them off to drop back into the pack.
In front of the mirror, Hanvex gave his unruly ash blond hair a good brushing. When it finally waved unevenly to fall just below his broad shoulders, he deemed himself ready for polite company. Now he smelled of clean soap and perfumed shampoo, instead of road dust and horse manure.
He strode from his room leaving his face undisguised. As he passed a maid laden with sheets, he gave her a comely smile. The maid turned to watch his back as he went down the corridor to the stairs. She had a slightly besotted expression on her face.

When he took a while to exit his room, Sam had made her way toward the room that Elizabeth was put in. She knocked and smiled as she entered the room. Elizabeth looked slightly frantic. "Oh, miss, i have nothing to wear that is sutible for your father to see" she glanced over at the bed, to see that Sarah was asleep. Samantha also looked over at her, and smiled. "Dont worry, you can borrow one of my own outfits." she walked over to the closet, and pulled out a simple, yet elegant gown. She smiled as she layed it on the bed. "Be back at the parlor as soon as you can" she smiled, and exited without waiting for her to protest the use of one of her gowns. She shut the door, and leaned against the wall next to it.
Now, was the hard part. She had to go face her father. "I really dont want to do this, but i must. I promised Hanvex" she spoke to Royal, as she made her way toward the parlor

Outside the dining room door, Hanvex paced as he tried to work up the gumption to go in. His silky clothing moved sensuously as he walked the hall.
"I'll wait another two minutes," he muttered, "And then I'll go in."
His relief was nearly palpable when he spotted Samantha.

Sam saw Hanvex, and her stride quickened slightly. Having made a pit-stop at her room, changing into a silk-blue evening gown, she smiled, her hair braided and hanging over a shoulder. She smiled as she stepped up to him. "Are you ready?" she asked, her hand grasping the door handle.

Hanvex gave his rescuer an attractive grin, "As I'll ever be."
He straightened his clothing and followed her into the room.

Her father sat at the head of a table, with Elizabeth at his left. In a high-chair, Sarah was sitting next to Elizabeth, looking clean and happy. Her father stood up when they entered the room, eyeing Hanvex suspiciously, yet he smiled. "Welcome, i hope you had time to get cleaned up and refreshed. Please, you are to sit at my right side" he smiled. Samantha nodded as she made her way to the foot of the table, away from the others

As Sam took her place beside her father, Hanvex paused with his hands resting on the back of his designated seat.
His head bowed, Hanvex spoke deferentially, "I would like to apologise for my earlier transgression. It will not happen again."
With the obscuring cloak missing, the traveller's hands were painfully obvious as they gripped the chair back. The inked black and silver dragon claws worked as Hanvex's own fingers traced the scrollwork carved into the head rest.

Nathen shot a look at Sam, and she gave him a look in return. In Nathens look, you could easily tell that he wasn't happy, but Sams look was very hard to read. Mixed feelings were in that look, and you couldn't tell which of them were real, and which were not real. Nathen then looked at Hanvex. "Do not fret, it is in the past. All that matters right now is getting through this dinner without dying" he said with a forced smile. Samantha nodded slightly

Hanvex gave a nod and allowed himself a tight smile as he pulled out his chair to sit.
In a soft voice, he answered, "Thank you."
As he waited for the meal to begin, Hanvex surreptuously studied his tablemates. They appeared to be a decent group of people and he would hate for any harm to befall them. Perhaps the calamities that tended to trail in his wake had not followed him to this home. Time would tell.

In a few seconds, a group of maids and butlers entered the room, and laden with plates covered in tin lids, and set them infront of all them. With a small bow to Nathen and Samantha, they exited the room. Elizibeth had a nervous smile on her face, and Sarah was just a little ball of energy. Nathen had a small smile on his face, and Samantha looked like she did when she was in line to get into the city.
The three of them lifted their lids and on the plates where steaks and veggies. A small plate of cut up veggies and very small pieces of steak were set next to Elizabeths plate for Sarah. Samantha looked over at Hanvex, and hoped he would like the steak and veggies

Hanvex had no qualms about eating anything, including bugs and leaves, but the repast laid in front of him was simply decadent compared to what he'd been eating lately. He only hoped that his tongue was still in his mouth.
As the family passed the dishes around, Hanvex watched how much of everything they all stabbed with their forks. If it was up to him, he'd simply start shovelling.

Finally, after Nathen had taken a bite, and then Samantha, and then Elizabeth, and she fed some of the food to Sarah. Smiling, Samantha glanced over at Hanvex, hoping he was doing okay
