It was ,a long time ago, that in the lands of the Norsemen that he learned and mastered his trade.True they did not use coin much for payment for his services, but instead bartered for his goods.
The evidence of their workmanship with metal, silver and bronze in particular could be seen around his neck in the for of leather bound necklaces, each pendant representing one of their deities or symbols of fortune and good luck.
He had around his neck, one of each of the following,Odin's Spear,Thor's Hammer,Thor's Head,Thor's Hammer with polished glass and shell beading,Valkryie,Eye Of Loki,Bronze Horse[well a norseman with a horse was considered wealthy],and a couple of bronze and silver Runes, symbolising health and wealth.
It was easier than most folk think trading with the Norsemen. The picture many people have is ship loads of axe weilding, yelling, hairy ersed bulls of men killing anything and everything in sight.
True that did happen from time to time, but many of the Norsemen were settlers, artisans who were skilled in their own trade, why even a few of the things he now makes were swapped from them.A trade of information and skill, sometimes more valuable than money..to the right person.
Of course he now had as part of his collection of pendants the two that were found in the magpie's nest by Meriden. In fact it was in those far flung cold lands that he picked up both Meriden and Melissy.
The clothes he wore ,were a final parting gift from those fine men and women of the north, made from the hide of a seal, and lined with the fur of an Artic Fox.the boots hehad on his feet were hand stitched ,each from a single rabbit pelt, furside in of course.
Maybe, perhaps in time he would find the significance of the two new, well new for him pendants.Until that time both the Wolf's Head and The Skull would have to remain mystery items.
