In love with a girl

[Skyler Canaan]

Skyler sat alone in the club, again. He couldn't help thinking about her, the new one he had a crush on. What did they call her? Kaytie. He waited, sighing as the club was open, but empty.

[Kaytie]

Kaytie walked into the club and frowned. She hated that the club was this empty, but wanted something to drink and to take her mind off of things. She walked up to the bar and sat down. "Hey, kid, get me a beer, will you?" she said, semi-demanding. It wasn't as if this kid was doing anything but daydreaming behind the bar, in a seat that probably shouldn't have been there.

[Skyler Canaan]

Skyler looked up upon hearing the voice. His heart stopped. It was her, right there in the club. He decided to try and compose himself as he grabbed her a beer from the cooler. "Sorry, my mind was elsewhere. Well, specifically, it was on you," he said, looking her up and down the best he could. "I'm Skyler, and will you go out with me?" he blurted out before really thinking it through.

[Kaytie]

Kaytie laughed. "Skyler, huh? Well, I got two pieces of news for you, Skyler. First is that I know what happened with you. I know about your bout with insanity, them locking you up, and the exorcism they performed to removes Aslin's control over you. That a lot of what happened was Aslin's doing, bot yours, and you had no real control over it. But the thing is, you didn't do anything wrong on your own account. There is a serious god-possessing presence you have because you do mercenary work. They will try and take you because you are open to it, though not through a fault of your own."

Kaytie took a drink, kind of nerving herself up to tell Skyler the second piece of news that would probably hurt him. "And I won't go out with you, because, honestly, I'm not into guys. And I'm also committed to someone, so I'm not even looking. Sorry about that, it's not something I can help."

[Skyler Canaan]

Skyler fell over. "OK, that's a new way of being rejected," he said. "As for knowing about me, how did you know everything, considering you weren't here for it?" The temptation to throw a verbal jab was strong, but he resisted due to her seemingly obscure knowledge of what was in his head.

[Kaytie]

"That's simple. It's all in the news clippings and the such, which the library has. Including the manuscripts of your sessions in the asylum. And the writings of the gods to their followers. Some of the oldest suggest that they can take over people when needed. And since you're a mercenary, and specifically against Aslin, she wanted to ruin you, and came very close to doing so." Kaytie looked around nervously. "Um, do you have a restroom here?" she asked, eying the place to see if she could spot it.

[Skyler Canaan]

Skyler nodded. "It's that way", he said, leading Kaytie out the back door, where she would have to wander the town to get out of her predicament.
