Character Sketch: Suddenly, the sky began to get dark and the sun faded from the sky. As the sun faded the moon shone through the large stain glass windows of the throne room to castle Ravenlock. The large iron doors to the throne room slowly opened revealing a figure standing there. The figure stood there for a few moments before lowering the hood of its cloak to reveal a woman's face.
She stood there a moment longer before grinning and bearing a pair of pearly white fangs. Her skin was so pale that it looked as if the sun hadn't laid its warming rays upon it in such a long time. Waking in she looked around. Her hair was as black as night itself and hung down past her waist. She cast her gaze about the room with red orbs that lingered on each person for a moment before moving onto the next.
The cloak she wore was tattered and torn and swayed back and forth inthe wind. Underneath her cloak she wore a long black dress that had a corset for a top. Her dress swished with her movements. She reached up and slowly pulled the cloak off, still gazing about the room with a smirk creeping across her face. Now, close to the throne, she took the few steps in front of it and then turned to face the audience that awaited her.
"My people," she began. "It pains me to see what is happening to this country. It has also come to my attention that some of the women and children are going unfed because their husbands have died. I hope to help them in anyway I can, even if I must employ them at my court." She forced herself to smile a sickeningly sweet smile to the audience that was present in her throne room. She walked around with an air of arrogance about her as she circled the room speaking out to her subjects and seeing if their problems were worth helping. Most men she pretended to listen to, otherwise she ignored their requests completely. With each experience she had with men, it was almost always a sad one. She was tired of being hit and spit upon like she was some common bar wench. She kept these experiences in mind every time a man appeared before her with a problem. However, the women were a particular weakness. Especially the women who have been wronged by men in any way. Whispers crossed the room in her wake, mostly from the men that she had disregarded completely. Joyously women sought council with her hoping to just have a few kind words from her. Once near the doors, after the second time she had circle the room, she stopped to speak once again.
"People of Ravenlock, I will help any and all I can as soon as I am able. Until then I wish that you make due with what you have." Smiling and bowing gracefully, she then turned and quickly made her way out of the throne room. Her sister ran up to her panting. "Akara why must you be so unjust to the men?" "Because men are vile disgusting creatures who's only purpose is to protect us when the time calls for it. Other than that men should be dealt with accordingly. There's no reason to treat them with kindness and be just to the likes of themwhen they treat their wives and family members like common bar wenches in a tavern."
Her sister shook her head and walked off. As Akara passed by the guards in the corridors they all bowed their heads, turning their gaze to the floor. Some were as bold to drop to a knee in front of her. Grinning she would tap a shoulder of the one's who did and they would flinch and fall straight to the floor.
Having had her fun she decided to return to her rooms to retire for the day. She was determined to help any woman that she could that had been wronged in any way by any man. Be it noble or a commoner, she had promised herself that she would help them. She began to draft plans of how she would help these women. The noble women would be easier to help than the commoners. Either way it did not matter to her, she was determined to help them and she swore long ago that she would. She opened her bedroom door and ordered one of hte passing servants to get her parchment and ink, as well as a quill to write with. As soon as the servant had brought her the parchment, quill and ink, she began to make a list of the things she could do for the commoners. She could have some houses built for them and teach some of the younger ladies how to be midwives, and the older ladies could be responsible for making dresses for the noble women and for other garments as well. She thought it was a better deal then having the women starve because of their lazy husbands that have either left or refuse to work. At least this way the women will be able to provide for their children.
Akara was brought back to herself by a startling knock at the door. She growled and asked who it was. A male voice answered; she immediatley ordered them away and said she would give them and audience later. She then turned back to her parchment and then knocking continued.
"Leave me in piece. I have no the time to deal with your problems at this moment. See me at a later date and I will tend to you then." She hissed ni a cold tone. The knocking did not cease. Finally, outraged that someone would go against orders she stood up and angrily marched over to the door. Swinging the door open she was looking into the exact likeness of Lucian. The only man she had ever loved and she was looking directly into his face. Or was she? Lucian had been taken from her long ago and she knew this man couldn't be him. This man might possibly be a cousin of his, or a brother, but she had absolutely no idea who it was. She knew that this man and Lucian were connected in some way.
"Please, Akara I need a place to stay the night and Lucian said that if I was ever in trouble you would help. I'm his brother Linden." Speechless Akara stared at him for a moment. After a short time she returned to herself and smiled genuinely.
"I'll see what I can find for you. Go down to the kitchens and tell them I said to feed the brother of Lucian well." He nodded and headed off to the kitchens. Taking in deep breaths to keep herself calm Akara shut the door and leaned her back against it. Slowly she slid to the floor as tears began to grace her cheeks with their presence.
It couldn't be, could it? Akara thought to herself. It's like looking directly at Lucian. The likenesses between their faces and body are too much. Could he have returned to me, but thought it best to play a game with me to lighten the mood? She took in a ragged breath and drew herself to her feet. This was not the time to linger in the past. By now, even if that had been Lucian, he's married and has a family of his own. There's no time to even think about what could ahve been or what should have been done. She turned to the door once again. As she regained her composure she opened the door and stormed down the hallways.
Upon seeing her the servants, guards, and midwives, as well as the other noble ladies in her court, scurried out of the way not wanting to be caught by her. They all knew what would happen. She would find something wrong with anything they did just so she could take her mind off of whatever it was she was angry about. Akara continued on her way until she made it to the stables and then saddled her horse herself and mounted the white stallinon. She intended on a nice ride into the forest to clear her mind. As she passed the gate she ordered one of the guards to hand over their sword and they did as told. Now prepared for anything Akara set off into the forest coazing a run out of her horse. After a few moments she looked back and all that could be seen was the castle shrinking into the distance.
(This was an assignment in my Creative Writing class my junior year in High School. My teacher called in a character sketch. The basic reason for it was to give a nice introduction to the character so that others could get to know her demeanor.)
Example of my rp
(OOC Note: Because I play Ceredith, Gwyndolynn, Akira, and Akeema I will NPC them in the posts for the ritual as well as the druids and priestesses because they are my NPCs)
Akara swept into the courtyard as if riding on a cold winter's breeze. She set her gaze to the man that was conjuring some force of energy and directing it through his arm into the sword and then forth from the blade. Her steely gaze passed through him and to the altar that was set for the ritual she intended to start conducting in only moments. The items that had been set forth upon it included an Athame, Evergreen wreath, small log of Oak, small "newborn god" candle for the god of flame, Cauldron, offerings, a chalice, a pentacle, spirit bowls placed around the pentacle (spirit bowls contain an item to represent each element), a statue of the goddess and a statue of the god. She moved to stand behind the altar facing all that were in the courtyard. She motioned for Akira, Akeema, Ceredith and Gwyndolynn to come forward and for them to circle the altar. She then directed the druids and the priestesses that had come to help in the ritual to make a larger circle around them and about 2 feet away from them. They did as directed and they all joined hands. She bowed her head for a moment and stole a gaze at the man trying to freeze them in time. She had heard of such a man before and it had never concerned her that he would venture to her realm and even her Empire and try to force them into his ways. It would never happen and she would die before subjugating her people to such a fate.
Now that everyone was in place she would begin. First to cast the circle and call the quarters forth. She would also have to call the Dark Goddess to the circle as well. To begin to cast the circle she began to sing "Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Inanna" As she finished singing that out 4 times the druids and priestesses joined in and began to dance about the circle hand in hand circling the smaller circle consisting of the Ravenlock and ShadowBane women. After they had begun Akara began to sing again and her sisters and Ceredith and Gwyndolynn had joined in. Their voices melded and eventually it sounded as if one clear voice was singing out the names of the Goddess. As the druids danced the lines of power grew under there feet thusly casting the circle. Akara let her voice slowly fade from the rest and the other voices lowered to a hum to keep the lines of power pulsing beneath them.
She took the athame and faced the east. Holding the dagger up with her right hand she spoke "Mighty Dragon, guardian of the realms of the east. Your tongue is a sharp sword, cutting with the knowledge of the arcane. Your spirit flows as graceful and as swift as in flight. Purify us with truth." She then turned to face the south. "Mighty Dragon, guardian of the realms of the south, your breath is aflame with the fires of inspiration and passion. Your spirit is searing and fervent. Purify us with love." Turning to the west she continued, "Mighty Dragon, guardian of the realms of the west, your coils are the cleansing, healing waves that nurture the soul. Your spirit lunges, leaps and splashes like a talbot at play. Purify us with pulsing tides." Turning now to the north she continued still, "Mighty Dragon, guardian of the realms of the North, your talons run like roots into the earth, giving you infinate strength. Your spirit is substantial, hard and pure like a clear crystal. purify us with persistant wisdom."
She then moved back to the altar "I mark now at this sacred time, the rebirth of the Sun God. It is the Great Mother who gives him birth. It is the lord of life born again. From the Union of the Lord and Lady, hidden in the realm of Shadows, comes forth now the child of promise!" Taking the icon of the God she placed it at the northern quarter of the altar. " I call forth now into the portal of the northern power. I call to the ancient God, He who brought forth the beasts of field and forest. I call upon the Ancient God, He who was beloved of the ancient tribes." She paused a moment to take a breath and continued. "My Lord, I greet You, O Horned One, horned with the rays of the Sun, by whose blessings and grace shall life always be born again. Behold, I have come before you at this appointed time. Bless me and the days before me. These gifts do I offer you."
She took an empty small bowl and placed it at the northern quarter, she placed a piece of bread within it. A cauldron had been placed on the outside of the 3 tiered altar on the lowest tier and she now sat in front of it. "O most ancient provider, Lord of Light and Life, I pray You grow strong that I may pass the Winter in peace and fullness. Emanate Your warmth and Your Love that the cold and harshness of Winter not dwindle Your followers. O most ancient One, hear me! Protect and provide int he harshness of these times. I give You adoration and place myself in Your care. Blessed be all in the God!" Akara's sister, Ceredith and Gwyndolynn chimed in at once to say "Blessed be al in the God!". She then took some oil from a vile that had been sitting on the altar and annointed her forehead with oil. Taking the sprig of rue she took a tiny bite and then said "Blessed be in His care." The others chimed in again "Blessed be in His care."
Standing once more she began to recite verbatum from her studies and from memory. "Now the time came, in the Hidden Realm of Shadows, that Diana would bear the Child of the Great Dark Lord. And the Lords of the four corners came and beheld the newborn God. So it came to pass that the Great Lords were brought before the throne of the Dark One. And they spoke, saying: 'Do we find You here, O Dianus?' And the Great One replied: 'Yes, it is I. Now you have truly seen my two faces.' Then Diana spoke to the four Lords, saying: 'Take my son who is born of Dianus, that he might bring Life to the World. For the World has grown cold and lifeless.' So the Lords of the four corners departed to the world of me, bearing the new Lord of the Sun. And the People rejoiced, for the Lord had come that all upon the earth might be saved." Placing a candle in the cauldron she lit it with a cool breath upon the wick. In doing this it represented giving birth through the caldron. She took the newborn flame to the East Quarter and held it aloft.
"Hail, to the newborn Sun. Hail Dianus, Hail Lupercus, Hail Lord of the Sun." She then moved to the southern quarter still holding the candle aloft and repeated "Hail, to the newborn Sun. Hail Dianus, Hail Lupercus, Hail Lord of the Sun." She did this now with the remaining quarters still holding the candle aloft and repeating what she had said moving in a clockwise fashion at the previous two. After finishing she made one final clockwise pass around the circle again holding the candle aloft. When she had reached the northern quarter again she held the flame higher aloft and then returned it to the altar. She spoke again " Let the spirit be joyful and the heart to despair not. For on this sacred day is born He whose Light shall save the World. He has come forth from the Darkness and His Light has been seen in the east. He is Lord of Light and Life." She made the god sign with her hand toward the god-flame. " Behold the Sacred One, the child of Promise! He who is born into the World, is slain for the World, and ever rises again!"
Taking the sacred evergreen wreath and placed it before the altar. The small oak log was then set in the center of the wreath. The god-flame then set atop of it. This was symbolic of the Lord of Light and the Lord of Vegetation, being as one and the same. Extending her palms out above the god-flame she continued " Behold the God whose life an dlight dwells within me. He is the Horned One; Lord of the forest, and the Hooded One; Lord of the Harvest, and The Old One; Lord of the Clans. Therefore do I honor Him." After having finished the Yule Ritual she had intended for the night she then gazed about those that had not been included in the circle. The druids and priestesses again began their dancing and singing. As their voices rose and fell the power quickened and strengthened. They kept up their pace to continue the flow of power. Taking a moment to send forth her astral self's feet into the ground, therefore grounding herself she then would begin to summon the Dark Goddess into the circle.
"I am the darkness behind and beneath the Shadows. I am the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of every breath. I am the ending before life begins again, the decay that fertilizes the living. I am the bottomless pit, the never ending struggle to reclaim taht which is hidden, secluded and forbidden. Come to me at the dark moon and see that which cannot be seen, face terror that is yours alone. Swim in the blackest of oceans to the center of your greatest fears. The dark god and I will Keep you safe. Scream to us in terror and yours will be the power of forebear. Think of me when you feel pleasure, and I will intensify it until the time I can have the greatest pleasure of meeting you at the crossroads between the roads."
The druids and priestesses kept up their power raising chant and now began to weave in and out of eachother. Ceredith, Gwyndolynn and the other Ravenlock sisters had begun to sing along with the druids and priestesses but kept still. They awaited the presence of the Dark Goddess that Akara had now summoned. All curious as to what was to happen next they only helped raise the power that which Akara would need to sustain her when she took the Goddess into herself. Akara's breathing slowed and her eyes drooped 'til they closed. The singing had begun to heighten and a dark shade entered the circle floating its way to Akara and then straight into her where it disappeared. Akara's eyes opened once more but now they had changed from their normal color to the color of the deepest oceans. Bright and shining they gazed about the circle and then to the havoc that was trying to be wreaked by Lyrasian outside of the protective circle that Akara had conjured upon the start of the ritual for all the magickal purposes that must take place on this night. Raising her hands above her head to soften the chants that were feeding the power into this sacred circle. "My children welcome me to the circle for what purpose? It was Akira who would speak first as she knew for some reason what was supposed to be said. "We summon you great mother for your blessings. You're humble servants we all remain. The Goddess turned her attention to Akira. She considered what the woman had said and then spoke to Akeema. "Your sister has answered well and recieves my blessing. What is it that you seek from my presence being here?"
"What I seek only you can give, I seek such power that is only yours to bestow." The Goddess smiled seeing that her presence had not been in vain. She turned now to Gwyndolynn asking her now "What do you seek of my presence?" Gwyndolynn bowed her head "I seek only what you wish to give, My Lady." Satisfied now with Gwyndolynn's answer she turned lastly to Ceredith. "What do you seek my dark childe?" Ceredith smiled and bent her head to the Goddess. "I too seek power, Mistress. Of course only what you see fit to give." She knew all these answers even before she asked but she wanted to hear each answer from them. She knew of course what Akara wanted as well and would grant them all what they wished for. "You all wish for something only I can give. You have served me well and continue on to do so. I shall grant all that you shall ask of me. With that the circle grew now competing with the orb that Lyrasian had been conjuring forth and directing with his blade. Darkened now the circle became and continued to compete with the man's orb. Within darkness there is always light, and within light there is always darkness. It was the balance of the universe and no one could change that. Not even this man who sought to do so for his beliefs. The Goddess intended to demonstrate this and continued to pour forth her power into the circle knowing fully that Akara was taking in as much power into herself as she could stand. That was her wish, more power. She would get all that The Goddess could give. The circle had now turned into a more odd shape as it expanded into the areas the man's orb had not consumed yet. Slowly letting Akara take hold of her body once more she showed Akara how to sustain this power. The Goddess receded into the depths of Akara's soul continuing to pour such power forth as would be needed to either encompass or disperse the mans conjuration.
