Brief history: Raphael and Shana used to live together in a small village. He was the fighter, competing in tounements in teh general area. Until the day that he enlisted into the ranks of the holiest fighters - the ones who served the god of Light (Amon).
He was charged to defeat one of the many forms of the god of Death (Astaroth) in the Underworld. He and Shana (Who had decided to come along because of her own feelings) went into the Underworld, but they were defeated. With the last of his strength, he transported the unconcious Shana out of the Underworld to safety, ready to give up his life for another - espically his childhood friend. But, after seeing his abilities, Astaroth had other ideas in store for the young man.
He took Raphael's soul and turned it into a wepon for him to use, giving him another life. But this life was not his own, an empty shell being controlled like a puppet by the god. Eventually, Amon found out about this, knowing that one of his top guards was under the command of the Dark god, and sealed Raphael away into the form of a book. Astaroth could not touch it because it contained a dark magical energy, so Amon hid it inside the library of Night World.
Now, Shana has released the seal on the book, releasing Raphael so he can wonder the world once again. He has regained his memories of his last life, but is still under the influence of Astaroth. He is like a walking window for the god of Death, and this could bring the downfall to anyone he meets.
