"I'm sure more people will show up. This is the happening place around here at night. Excuse me for a second." Cassiel turned to Eli, "What do you want to drink? It's on me tonight."

"I probably should stay away from the alcohol. So I'll just have a soda."

"Alright," Cassiel turned to the bartender, "Two soda's please." After the bartender gave her the sodas, she gave one to Eli and took her own. Turning to Sharir she said, "So, what lead you here to Night World. If you don't mind me asking, that is."

"No, I don't mind at all," Sharir answered, "I've been out and about for some years now, you know, visiting different cities, getting jobs. Looking to put down some roots.
"Most of the other places were not, shall I say, kind to shifters?" He searched his drink for moment and then added, "I've had to move every time I shifted and went hunting." Looking up quickly, he said, "I've never hunted humans. I only killed to protect myself and that hasn't happened often. Well, three times to be exact and not lately. I'm more careful now and I leave before things get too hot for me."

Cassiel nodded in understanding. "I tried to stick to places like this where it seemed like everyone was welcome. But I was being chased by two groups of people. The one group finally gave up when I got here, and the other group, well, I am just waiting."

Interest kindled in Sharir's eyes.
"Who is this group?" He asked, "Maybe I know some of them. If they do show up, we might be able to get rid of them for good."
The waitress brought the two sodas and Sharir asked for a cola, this time without the rum.
"For every glass of liquor I have, the next drink I get is non-alcoholic," he explained, "Keeps me semi-sober.
"I remember one group that chased me through three counties," he said, "They might be the same ones that hunted you."

"Probably not. This group was after something I own, something my father and I made before they killed him. I still haven't figured out why they wanted it so badly. So much as I can tell, there is really nothing special about it." Cassiel shrugged, "They want is badly."

Sharir started his soda as he thought.
"Seems that it's human nature to want things you can't have," he said, "Quite a few of my hunters have wanted my hide for a trophy or they've been angry that I can do something that's beyond them."
Over his soda, he commented, "They must want this thing very, very badly to kill for it. That's probably the best reason of all to keep it from them."

"Unless it is of use to them," Eli chimed in. "I carried 2 stones with me for 4 years that Aslin, Akando, Kane, and Dafoe all wanted from me. I finally surrendered them to Aslin when I got here."

Sharir swirled the soda in his glass. Music started up and couples began to gather on the dance floor.
"Must have been quite interesting carting around things that the gods wanted to take from you," he said, "That's not something I'd be lining up for."
A bold young woman hesitantly approached the three friends. Standing behind Sharir, she waited a moment and then tapped the shifter on his shoulder. He twisted around to follow the retreating hand with his eyes to a pair of pretty and full lips. Behind the lips he found a lovely young girl who suddenly found a well of shyness where courage had stood.
Several of her friends waited for her at the edge of the dance floor. Sharir immediately guessed why she was here. Her friends giggled and hid behind their hair.
The shifter smiled at the girl and put down his soda. He gave Eli and Cassiel a quick smile of apology and turned to face his admirer.
"Would you like to dance with me?" He asked the girl quietly.
"Oh, yes," she answered with such sincerity, that he nearly laughed.
Instead, Sharir stood up and offered her his arm. With surprise in her eyes, she let him escort her to the dance floor as her friends grabbed their dates and followed quickly.

Cassiel smiled as Sharir left with the girl. Looking at Eli she said, "Do you want to go join them on the dance floor, or would you rather sit here and talk?"

"It's up to you. What do you want to do?"
