"You and me both."
Alohilani lead Lycari up to the bartender and stopped, "Excuse me," She said sweetly, smiling as the bartender looked her over, "My fiance and I have just traveled quite a distance and I was wondering if you knew of an Inn or possible a hostel that we might be able to stay at. Also, we haven't had a good supply of food, so if you could point us in the right direction for some good eating, we'd both be most appriciative."
The bartender broke into a smile at the thought of business and put his arms out wide. "O' course! T'is be one o' de best places to get grub 'or miles, an' we offer rooms as well, mind you they're notin spectacular, but it's somewhere to lay yer head 'or a nigh'." He walked to the end of the bar and pulled a key off a board that had a number 12 attached to it. "$75 dollars is all it cost; Gots a bed, washroom, water closet, an' pleasent veiw of the town, tha' all righ'?"
Alohilani took out the money and handed it to the tender, her smile still on her lips. "Thank you kindly, good sir." She took the key gently and handed it to Lycari, "We'll be down later for dinner, but thank you once again." Alohilani lead Lycari to the stairs where she began her ascend to their room. She looked over her shoulder and smiled, "Hope you didn't mind. I'm use to having to pay for two rooms because of my brother, so calling you my fiance saved money for us." She stopped in front of the door with an old wood 12 nailed to the door and opened it with the key. Inside was just what the bar tender had described; a bed, a washroom, water closet, and a magnificent balcony with a view of the town.

Lycari peered over Alohilani's shoulder and into the room. It seemed pleasant enough, although a little on the shabby side for his taste. The tabletops were clean, the sun could actually shine through the clear window and the room smelled of rosemary leaves. He pushed past Alohilani and inside.
He took only a few steps into the room when he turned and opened his arms grandly, "Home away from home!" Returning to his friend, he took both of her hands in his, "Thank you for a night under a roof for a change."
The shifter strode to the bed and flopped down on his back. "It's soft!" He proclaimed incredulously, "And I can't smell any bugs!"
Outside, the sky began to darken over and an ominous rumble sounded.
"Just in time, I think."

Alohilani looked around and smiled as Lycari checked the room. "It was no problem." She walked over and sat on the bed. It was indeed soft. When she heard Lycari's stomach grumble she laughed lightly, "Why don't you go down and eat, I'll be down in a couple of minutes." She smiled warmly at him.

Embarassment colored Lycari's pale face.
"Guess I will," the shifter said as he sat up.
He flowed to his feet and strode to the door, turning back to Alohilani when his fingers touched the door knob.
"Would you like me to bring you something, or are you coming down later?"

"I'll be down later, I'm just going to rest for a couple of minutes." She laid down on the bed and closed her eyes, shifting into her fox form, then curled up into a little ball on the pillows. She looked up at Lycari and tilted her head, ears perked.

Giving a quick snort of laughter, Lycari shook his head and then left, closing the door behind him. The hallway was dark as the oil lamps hadn't been lit and the air smelled like stale smoke and cinders. Dingey took on a new meaning for the shifter, as he spotted grime-stained walls.
Critically, he wondered what kind of stuff passed for food in this place and if it would be even faintly edible. While his shifter's system could digest practically anything with impunity, he was a very fastidious eater and preferred his dinner relatively germ-free.
He reached the stairway and started down the rickety wooden planks. Every single one of them squeaked and creaked as if all of the nails were coming up. When he hit the main floor with its common room, he had his pick of only two tables; the first being closest to the door and chilly, with the other being smack-dab up against the hearth and its searing heat.
Selecting broil over freeze, Lycari pulled out a chair and sat down to wait for a serving girl. A motley-looking musician climbed up onto a stool and began tuning his lute. Badly. As he listened, Lycari winced.

Alohilani fell into a light sleep on her position amongst the mountain of pillows. She woke up a few minutes later and looked around her. Everything seemed calm and relaxed for once. Alohilani stretched then jumped off the bed, shifting midair. She walked down the creaky stairs and spotted Lycari. Walking over to him Alohiani covered her ears as the musician continued to tune his lute.

Lycari gave her a lopsided grin, "Pretty bad, hunh?"
He stretched out long legs and crossed his ankles. Flames danced in the hearth and the musician began a rather lamentable ballad. The man lacked a voice, too, however Lycari had to give him a few points for guts. To sing off-key seemed almost impossible to the shifter and the musician was doing an excellent job of mangling a perfectly nice song.
When a bored looking waitress ambled up to the table, Lycari asked Alohilani what she wished for a meal.

Alohilani shrugged, "Anything. I'm not picky and I'm STARVING. So whatever you're willing to order for me will work." She looked at the guy still singing and shook her head.

Lycari twisted an eyebrow at her, "Painful, isn't it?" To the waitress he said, "What do you recommend?"
Switching her pencil from one side of her mouth to the other, the waitress sighed. "I'd say the best thing we've got this evening is the venison surprise." She leaned closer to the handsome shifter, "It's a surprise the cook wasn't drunk when he made it. It's your best bet."
"Two venison surprises then," Lycari smiled, "And what is the musician drinking?"
"Whiskey," the waitresss said.
"Give him a double on me," Lycari flipped her some coins.
These were slipped into a pocket, "I'll see what I can do."
The waitress sauntered away.
Lycari leaned towards Alohilani confidentially and said, "Maybe we can get him too drunk to sing?"

Alohiliani nodded hopefully, laughing. "I think he'd improve if he was drunk!"

Lycari's laugh was loud enough to call attention to the pair from another table. He nodded at the other diners apologetically.
"I doubt that anything short of unconsciousness could improve his performance!"
The waitress swayed back with a large tray full of dinner. She arranged the plates in front of Alohilani and Lycari, parked drinks down for them and then detoured over to the musician to leave a strong ale for the man.
Lycari studied his meal, "Smells good. A little bit over-seasoned, but quite acceptable."

"Quite the critic aren't you?" Alohilani teased. "Well, it looks delicous to me, and right now I could care less about my figure." She smiled at Lycari, "Bon apetite!"

Lycari grinned at her and tucked in. It was a marvellous stew, every bit as flavorful as he thought it would be. He stopped ladling the stew into himself long enough to tear a good piece of bread off the loaf for himself, slathering it with butter. The way he ate, it was hard to imagine how he had kept his svelte figure. Shifting burnt up an extraordinary number of calories, it seemed.
Throughout their dinner, the musician continued to strum and yodel out ballads, although his singing degenerated greatly as the amount of beer in his glass went down. The man's fingers stumbled over the neck of his lute, but every customer in the place sang along with him, even the ones still eating.
Lycari didn't participate in the sing-along, being far too busy enjoying his meal. When the last drip of stew and the last crumb of bread was gone, he leaned back in his chair and winced at a particularly off-key note, multiplied twenty-fold by the many singers at the chorus.
He winked at Alohilani, "I'm glad that I've got a really strong stomach."

Alohilani giggled quite girly and smiled. She set her spoon down and looked at the musician. "He wouldn't be so bad with some lessons."
