Rincon walked through the forest. He was looking for clues from his creams, which lead him here. He could see what appeared to be a shack in the middle of the forest, so he approached it slowly. It was the same one in his dreams. He walked up to a window and looked inside, not seeing anything. He walked back over to the door and turned the handle. it opened, and he went inside. His blue hair drooped a little, and Rincon clowed his entrance into the house. There was some sort of bad migic at work in here. He pulled out a small piece of mirror and looked. His hair was almost a sky blue. Whatever the magic was, it was strong. He walked through the house, trying to make as little noise as possible, in case something decided to attack him.

Head low, jaws open in a pant, the huge wolfhound trotted through the forest, his escape assured now that he had outdistanced his pursuers. Birds twittered and flitted from tree to tree, chasing squirrels away from their nests. Leaves crackled underfoot as the dog worried not about the soft noise his pads made on the forest floor.
He was tired. Miles had passed beneath his paws in his trek down the mountains. He needed a safe place to rest and recuperate from his ordeal.
Ahead, in a clearing, stood a rustic cabin, and from what his keen sense of smell could tell, uninhabited. The wolfhound ranged up to the place and sniffed at the threshhold. Old scents and new scents mingled. Rabbits, ravens, mice --- lots of mice --- and one person only lately come to this place, as his scent was the freshest.

Rincon stopped and turned around. He heard something at the door, but decided investigation wasn't the best option right now. He ducked behind a wall and thought hard. He thought maybe something could be done to warn whatever it was outside. So he knelt down and put his palm to the ground, where a trickle of water started from his hand. He concentrated on the door, and the water flowed towards it. He watched the path get longer, then made the trickle of water coming from his hand a stream of water. He watched as the water started pooling near the doorway, and then started running out of it. Rincon didn't care if he flooded the place out, just as long as he was able to find what he was looking for before he did it.

The wolfhound snuffled at the crack under the door. When water began to dribble out, the dog sneezed and stepped back, watching the dribble turn into a small stream. The water ran towards his paws. He lifted one front paw distastefully and lowered his head to sniff at the rivulet passing by him.
When the water turned to run towards him again, the dog danced out of its way, ears perked. Again the stream changed course and wet his paws. Again the great dog pranced aside.
Finally, as the water twisted its path in his direction once more, he barked loudly.

Rincon stopped the flow of water. He surmised from the bark that the second being wasn't human, or possibly some sort of shifter. He walked over to the window near the door and peeked out. He noticed that there was a wolfish animal sitting outside, moving away from the water. Assuming that it wasn't the owner of the house, Rincon concentrated hard on the water, making it dry up.
Rincon reached over to the door and opened the door. He wasn't too worried about the wolf, as it had shown it didn't want much to do with water from a mysterious origin. Satisfied that he wasn't in any immediate danger, Rincon went about searching the house, which was almost devoid of anything other than furniture, possibly suggesting it was only used by vacationers or for a short period every year. That thought got Rincon to thinking.
He walked back to the front door, looking to see if the wolf was still there. Seeing him, he approached it cautiously. When he was about 10 feet away, Rincon decided now was the time to speak up, not inclined to make a wolf feel theatened. "I am not here to hurt you or anybody. I need some help and you may be able to assist me. If you can understand me, please give me a sign."

(OOC: Just to clear something up --- this is a wolfhound They aren't wolves, but boy can they take one out!) The big dog's head came up when Rincon appeared in the doorway. Karis paced towards the man, but hesitated just out of reach. When Rincon asked for some sort of sign, the wolfhound barked loudly. Wolfhounds were rare, mainly being owned by western lord and ladies. They were far too large for the common person to care for, often weighing in at a hundred and fifty pounds. A good look at Karis was daunting; his head reached Rincon's chest.

Rincon nodded. "I'm going to assume that you are able to tell if any other people are here, because you were sniffing around for a while. Is there anyone here I should know about. If there is someone here, keep quiet and I will know."

Many scents teased at Karis' sensitive nostrils, not a one of them, except for Rincon's, were fresh. Others had been here many times, but not recently. The wolfhound could tell that animals had crossed the threshhold often, but it also seemed as if they never emerged.
The whole place stank of magic gone wrong, sadness and death. How could he get this across to the person addressing him without shifting into his human form?

Rincon looked and took the silence to mean that he shouldn't continue in a cabin. He reached up to the top of his head and felt his hair. It felt normal, which made Rincon uneasy, because moments ago it had been droopy, as if it were dying. Suddenly, something clicked in his mind. "It isn't that there is someone there, it is that there is something there. My hair is an indicator of how strong my magic is, andit is weakened with intense interference. When it droops and lightens, it means there is some bad magic in the area. Is this what you are trying to tell me?"

Soulful hound eyes locked with Rincon's, and the wolfhound whined. Karis was loathe to shift in public and had always found it prudent to show his talent only to those he trusted with his life. His musings were interrupted by a vague feeling of danger.
Abruptly turning from the man, Karis pointed his long nose in the direction he felt the strongest disruption. Keen wolfhound eyes caught a quick movement deep in the black forest. Instinct kicked in, and the dog shifted uneasily on his four huge paws, ducking his head in an effort to bring the 'thing' into focus. A low growl guttered in the air as the dog voiced his concern.

Rincon looked, and spotted water. 'Perfect,' he thought, as he concentrated the direction the wolfhound was pointing and the water, and froze the area. Rincon slowly moved toward it, wondering if it had planted some sort of magic that diminished Rincon's power, and now was trying to make an escape.
"Well, I hope that works for long enough to figure out what that is, because if it doesn't, I'm screwed," Rincon said as he walked.

As Rincon stepped towards the magical font, the wolfhound fell in behind him. Karis watched for anything out of the ordinary; his body tense with unspent energy. When they reached the ensorcelled water, he refused to approach any closer, a low whine in his throat.

(Dang, and I have a nice trick in the other board I use this character on, but here it fulfills a gap in the other board, so I can't use that power here.)
Rincon stopped. He looked at the frozen front, tense. He knew that was the best he had, but if it wasn't enough, they were in trouble. rincon's mind worked quickly. "Get into the cabin, it might be our only chance," he said as he took off running for the cabin. He knew that if they could get in and close off the door, Rincon's magic could cover a wider area, and possibly be more potent if he hit a spot with more intense magic. As Rincon waited inside for the wolfhound to enter, he started scanning the room. He noticed something this time he had missed the first time inside. A paper. he picked it up and read. When he was done, he pocketed the paper and stood by the door.

Karis wheeled and bounded after Rincon. He was only a few feet behind the wizard when a low moaning began to sound deep in the woods. Without stopping to take a good listen, the wolfhound dashed into the cabin, his claws punishing the plank floor as he skidded to a halt.
He turned to face the still open door. The wind picked up outside and the moaning came closer. Whatever approached was not out for their good. Karis could sense that.

Rincon slammed the door shut, and sealed it with a thick layer of ice that covered the entire wall with the door, and some of the adjoining walls. "I'm here looking for something, and since I have never been here before, I will need some help," Rincon said, looking around the kitchen and living area of the cabin. "And since you seem to be able to detect bad magic more readily than I can, I need you to let me know when you sense any, and from what direction." With that, Rincon started to look in drawers and in cabinets for anything that would help him find his objective, and hopefully, the killer of his guardian.
