Night Falls

Narym smashed the lock off the trapdoor with the hilt of her sword.
' Hurry,' she urged, ' Fallow says Lily has been affected by whatever was in her drink.'
She pulled open the wooden door and stood back to allow the cat to go first. 'I'll get my head round the bossy bag of fur later', she thought and, after giving Syn a quick salute, she tumbled down the ladder after Cass.

Dyra watched the people around her scattering, and stood sleekly. Cassandra and Narym, whom she was supposed to stick with, both had left quickly, and Dyra was pretty sure that she had heard Dragon wings with their departure, so she wasn't sure where she was supposed to be. Deciding not to worry just yet, she waited along with a few others who were either in the second or third wave, keeping her calm as best she could...her best use would still be to take out guards or to create chaos somewhere. But the chaos around her was starting to take some effect, and she couldn't deny that....people dissappearing, tension, and sharp words were wearing on her composure, and she felt her gift stirring uneasily. Turning her gaze around to see how soon they would be inside, she grinned as her eyes flickered for a moment before settling back to grey...

As Narym climbed awkwardly down the narrow wooden steps she had a sudden thought of Dyra. Damn she was supposed to be keeping an eye on her. ' I'll just have to find her as soon as I've got Lily safe,' she thought and at that moment landed on the ground, on top of the cats tail.
" Sorry!" she whispered and cast her mind out for Lily. Damn, she still couldn't sense her. Ah well, she'd just have to do it the old fashioned way.

[cassandra]

Forgetting, (and not really caring) that Narym hadn't been introduced to him yet, Sebastian turned around to her and snarled, "Watch out for the tail whydontcha?"

[narym]

" Shut it, furball!" Narym hissed, " just keep your tail out from under my boot!"
She turned to Cass and whispered," Where now?"

[cassandra]

"This stairwell didn't exist when I lived here, and it didn't show up on Kaden's blueprints, but I'm pretty sure we go this way. Just pray that its not locked from Melacham's side when we get there."

[lilyrose]

Lily leaned back against the wall her head swimming. She tried to connect with Narym or Fallow but she couldn't seem to concentrate for long enough. Looking over at Melacham she started to panic. What the hell had he put in her drink? She prayed that someone came to find her soon, if they didnt she didn't like her chances alone against Melacham.

Narym followed Cass down the corridor. She sent to Fallow.
' How is Lily?'
A thundrous roar sounded in her head and she reeled back. 'Whoa Fallow, take it easy!'
' Sorry Narym, I forgot to cut it off ' Fallow replied contritely. ' I'm worried, I can only faintly pick up Lilys thoughts.'
' Try to get through to her,' Narym insisted. ' Tell her we're near, tell her to get out of the room. Roar if necessary!'
She tapped Cass on her shoulder. " Hurry, Lily is in trouble!"

Terrified for Lily's safety and cursing herself for ever encouraging Lily to place herself in harm's way, Cassandra's mind was racing. They couldn't just burst into Melacham's room, he'd blast them to nothingness....no, they had to get Melacham out...while they remained in the stairwell..then when he'd cleared the scene..get Lily out...how...how..wait..wait...turning to Sebastian she excitedly said, "Okay, here's your chance to be a hero...tell Syn to tell Kaden to make their presence known NOW!" Turning to Narym she said, "Put your ear against the door, if we're where I think we are, we're gonna hear Melacham racing past us. When he's past, we're gonna run in and grab her. I'll help you load her onto Syn and have him fly you guys back down and meet up with Dyra. When you see Fiona tell her to follow the plan without me.....make sure Cassiel is okay then come to the 2nd floor and proceed...me and the furball are going after something...okay?"

Melacham sat back and watched Lily's eyes begin to flutter with a smug expression on his face...that was quickly replaced with horror when he heard an ungodly roar that could only be made by one creature...a dragon! He'd had a virtual phobia of them since seeing one wipe out his entire villaage when he was a small child. As he began to run towards the window he saw a huge burst of flame come roaring past it...and knock out a portion of the rear wall....as he stood there in shock and horror, wondering where in the hell the damn thing had come from he also heard all hell breaking loose in the main wing. Closing his eyes for a moment he focused all his energy on what was causing the racket. Detecting the energy of both Cassandra and Kaden he was filled with a rage so strong that he quickly forgot all about Lily and headed to the front...prepared to destroy the troublesome pair once and for all.

Narym nodded and did as Cass said. Just a short time later, she heard footsteps racing by where they were concealed.
" Ok, he's gone!"
She pulled the door handle. Hell, the door was locked.
" Stand back!" she said curtly and called up her orb. It glowed softly just above her palm and then began to grow in size and strength. Soon its light was almost blinding. Narym said an ancient word " Ka-d'nish!" The orb blazed and shot out toward the door lock. It splintered and they ran into the corridor.
Narym lead the way calling Lilys name, the time for caution now over.
" Answer me Lily!" she yelled, " where are you!"

Lily could hear Narym calling but just didn't seem to be able to answer her. Her mouth was dry and her head felt fuzzy. Looking around her she realised that Melacham had gone, atleast that was one less thing to worry about. Determined that she wasn't going to be the damsel in distress any longer she focused all her remaining energy into changing. Slowly but surely she could feel the change coming over her and her energy levels started to increase.
Slowly Lily rose to her feet and her head started to clear "Narym" she called "In here "

Narym heard Lily call and raced down the hall. She threw herself at the door, but the sorceror had had the presence of mind to lock it when he left. She was begining to suffer from the drain of power, but she again called on her orb and smashed the lock. As she ran into the room, she tripped and fell flat on her face.
" Oof! What the....? You bloody stupid cat!"
She got to her feet and limped over to Lily. She could see a change in her friend, but decided to think about it later.
" I had planned to make a grand entrance," she gasped, trying to catch her breath, " but that damn fuzzbucket spoiled it! Ha!" She grabbed Lilys hand. " Come on baby, we're going to get you out of here!"
So saying, she pulled Lily to her side and with Cass's help, got her out of the room.

"Step on my tail will you?" Sebastian sneered...quietly...very quietly.

Lily couldn't help but chuckle as Narym tumbled through the door. Realising Narym had never seen her in her vampire form she suddenly felt self conscious " Sorry this seems to be the only way I can kick whatever it was Melacham put in my drink. " Giving her friends a quick hug she added "I sure am glad to see you two, now let me have my crossbow and i'm right with you." She looked at Narym and waited for the inevitable arguement.
