Night Falls

Narym caught a strange look in Dyras eyes. What....? Did they really change colour? But when she looked again, all was as before. She shrugged. Yet another thing to worry or think about later, now was definitely not the time!
She yelled at Dyra and Fiona as they took cover in a doorway.
" Any word on Cassiel?"
Stonework started to fall around them. This was not a good place to stay!
" Quick, Cassandra needs us on the second floor!"
She started to run along with Lily, to the entrance Kaden had marked on the map.
" In here!" she shouted and fell through the door just as more masonry fell to the ground.

[Fiona]

"I've got to go to the left and meet Cassandra, you guys go to the right and clear that area!" Fiona yelled as she ran behind them.

Fiona reached the top of the stairs and took off to the left as Cassie had instructed her to just to see 2 guards running towards her. Changing into her vampire state in front of them she bared her fangs and hissed in her best B movie Bride of Dracula impression. It worked. 1 guard came to a skidding halt and dropped his sword in terror and ran past her down the hall, straight into Narym. Fiona grabbed the other and latched onto his neck, drinking until she had drained him to death. Made stronger by the meal of human blood, which she didn't get often, she threw the body down the stairs, knocking down 3 more guards with it., then ran to meet Cassandra, who was already waiting outside a locked door. With a cat on her shoulder.

Kaden didn't leave many of the guards alive. Just 5 beside the back wall. But those 5 were reaching for guns and radios. Not being in the mood to f*ck around Merlin quickly took his finger and made a large circle in the air. A large, thin, disk of ice appeared floating in the air in front of him. As the disk floated in front of him he made quick jerking motions with his finger. Ice fell away from the disk leaving it in the shape of a table saw blade. With a flick of his fingers the blade quickly went down the line of guards, decapeting everyone of them!

"Can't shoot or radio with no heads!" he yelled as he followed Kaden out the door. "Right behind you bro!"

[Cassiel]

When the king sat down beside her, Cassiel inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. For a few moments she thought he was going to leave and the whole plan would be ruined.

There was another crash, closer still and Cassiel practically jumped into the kings lap. She looked him in the eyes and kissed him. When she "realized" what she did, she gasped. "Oh I'm so sorry, I don't know what came over me."

Narym had fought vampires many times. She had even fought along side them occasionally. But she had never got used to seeing the way they killed their victims. The terrified guard ran full pelt into her and, as he was weaponless and scared witless, she just banged him atop his head with her sword hilt and dropped him to the ground, all the time watching Fiona with morbid fascination.
Jumping to one side to avoid the vampires victim as he fell lifeless down the stairs, she turned to see three guards knocked over by the body. She flicked a quick look at Lily, praying that she would choose a different way to fight and and armed her crossbow. Letting off a bolt, she caught the first guard to regain his feet in the shoulder and readied her bow for the next shot. She always prefered to aim for the right shoulder, it would incapacitate the enemy, leaving them alive but unable to fight. She was a healer as well as a warrior and life was precious, even the life of an enemy. For her, killing was the last resort.
She could hear the muffled sounds of Fallows constant bombardment of the castle. He was going far beyond his briefing, she knew. He was just supposed to be a distraction, but Melachams treatment of Lily had angered him beyond caution. She could feel his fury radiating in her bones as he sent bolt after icy bolt at the castle walls, as if he were trying to bring the entire edifice down by himself. Gods he was awesome and terrifying and thankfully on their side!

[cassandra]

Cassandra saw Fiona running towards here with relief. "Thank God you're here! Look, can you do your blinky thingy and reappear inside that room, grab a necklace for me, then reappear back out here with it?"

[Fiona]

"My blinky thingy?" Grateful that she spoke fluent Cassie, she just grinned and shook her head. "All hell is breaking loose around us, we're here to overthrow an evil king and his demented sorcerer buddy, and homegirl wants to make sure she's properly accessorized for the ocassion?" Fiona teased. "Yeah, sure. I can do that. Where is it in the room, and what does it look like?"

[cassandra]

"I'm not sure where it is inside the room you'll have to look for it. It shouldn't be too hard to find though. Withme standing right outside the room it should be glowing. And its not about jewelry. That necklace is gonna help me kill Melacham. It's got a sun and moon on it, and both of them should be glowing with a holy glow. Hurry!" Cassandra hissed as she heard footsteps headed their way at a fast clip.

Narym heard the sound of heavy boots behind her, even as she saw the remaining two guards making their way slowly up the stairs.
" These two are yours Lily!" she said hurriedly and turned to run down the left hand corridor. Ahead of her, she could see at least three armed guards bearing down on Cassandra. She drew her sword and sped up.

[cassandra]

Cassandra heard Narym running up behind her with relief. At least she wouldn't be on her on with this one! "But there's three of them!" she thought frantically. I can take one right now, and so can Narym, but what about the third?" Thinking quickly she hit up on on an idea. Maybe the furball had some use after all! "Think fast asshole!" she yelled as she reached up on her shoulder and grabbed the unsuspecting cat and hurled it into the third guard's face!

As the guard looked up and saw 20lbs of hissing, claws bared, fanged fury rushing right at his eyes he dropped his sword and put up both hands to deflect the cat. Cassandra quickly reached into each boot and pulled out her knives. Taking one she buried it to the hilt in the guard's soft middle. Cutting up towards his viscera when she hit the bone of his breast plate, she twisted. Turning quickly she took the other knife and buried it in the throat of the second guard. Looking around for Narym, she saw that she had the first guard firmly under control.

Narym saw Cass throw the furball at the guard with surprised amusement. So the mangey thing had a use after all! Then the guard was on her and she had no more time to think. He was a good six inches taller than her and had a long reach, but he was softer than his outward appearance and she was soon in control. She parried his sword,stepping back and letting him think she was an inferior female. When she saw the smirk on his face, she twisted and punched him on the side of his head with her sword hilt. He fell like a stone to the ground.
" Smirk at me would ya, me darlin'," she snarled.
She looked at the other two guards, dead at her feet.
" Not bad for a princess!" she grinned at Cass. " Lily's got the other two, so that should be the lot."

[cassandra]

"I have my moments!" Cassandra grinned back, basking in her new friend's approval. "Fiona! Hurry up and get out here with that necklace! This floor is clear, but I don't know what's going on in the rest of the castle!" Cassandra was very worried. She knew that Melacham was on a rampage...and was draining the magic off the people in the castle. She felt herself growing weaker, and was fearing for Kaden and the rest.

Narym bent down and picked up a short sword.
" Ah, just what I've been looking for!" she said cheerfully. " I prefer fighting with two."
She looked down at the cat.
" Nice work, puss," she smirked.
She leant against the wall, feeling tired. Gods, how old was she now? Too old, perhaps, for this. Maybe she should be leaving the fighting for the youngsters!

[Kaden]

Kaden had already taken out the security system and cameras, so all the guards were completely disorganized. They couldn't handle this assault. Syn? Where are you right now? Kaden telepathically asked his friend, just as a rumbling shook the castle.

Flying around out here, you guys need any other help? I know Cassandra told me to wait on the roof, but this is all just so cool that I couldn't sit still! This other dragon is awesome! Came the excited reply.

Yes, he sounds like it. Could you do me a favor though, and ask him to tone down his awesomeness a slight bit before he drops the entire castle? At least while we're still in it anyway? And find Cassiel, tell me what room she's in.

Got it!

Kaden heard the now determined flapping of wings. He knew where his next destination was, once they got Cassiel out of there. He needed to find Cassandra's team. It was the only team he hadn't heard from yet. Running up one floor, he stopped at the door. Realizing that they came in in the basement, and Cassandra's squad should be on the second floor...That means this is the first floor. Don't think anyone touched this one yet. Forming a ball of ice in the air before he opened the door, he let it grow to about as big as a basketball. Then he opened the door, left it open just long enough for the guards there to notice and start running towards him, so he could throw the ball in and slam the door shut. About a second later, he snapped his fingers and the ball exploded, sending deadly shards of ice everywhere in the room.

Re-opening the door and walking in, he saw that he'd calculated right. The ball had been at about face level when he detonated it, just where it needed to be to get past the armor. A few guards had just been blinded, so Kaden just smashed their radios and left them, heading for the way to the next floor.

'Narym'
'Yes Fallow?'
'I have been asked to reduce my bombardment on the castle.'
'Well, we are still in it my friend,' she replied fondly. 'We would like to get out in one piece!'
She sent her affection, soothing his ruffled feathers, or rather scales!
'Don't worry, you can finish the job once we've finished ours!'
Slightly mollified, he acknowledged the sense of her words and flew higher. Immediately the noise ceased.
" What's next?" she asked Cass.
